I’m GERRIT VAN GENDEREN, a media relations professional & East Coast transplant living in the Bay Area. I was welcomed out west by the University of California, Berkeley, where I’m an assistant director of athletics communications for the Golden Bears’ men’s basketball, baseball and men’s swimming & diving programs.

Since earning my undergraduate degree in Journalism from Appalachian State University in 2015, I’ve gained seven years of professional experience in public relations & sports journalism. Along the way, I’ve been named a 2015 North Carolina Press Association (NCPA) winner for sports deadline reporting at the Hickory Daily Record and I made the jump from being an intern to the director of athletics communications within a one-year span at Mercer University.

I love the work I do & I embrace the opportunities to tell the stories of talented student-athletes and their collegiate journeys through print and digital platforms. I’m driven to work with talented & curious people – the kind of folks who leave their egos at the door & are motivated to build cool, forward-thinking content that student-athletes and our athletics programs can benefit from. I believe that the best results are produced when talent is surrounded by talent.

I love baseball (go Twins), can always chat about hip-hop and will rarely say no to a slice of pizza.

Thanks for reading this far. Say hello!
